Mentorship

Still in the preliminary stages of development, the idea of the Mentorship Program is to establish a community-based program aimed at connecting new foster families with a foster parent mentor in their community.  It consists of a one-year training program for newer foster parents.  This training will be conducted by an experienced foster parent from within the community or local area.

A combination between the Network's Peer Support Program and Education Program, the Mentorship Program is a collaborative effort between The Network, the Joint Training Unit, the four Child Welfare Authorities and the province.  If implemented, this program will provide a healthy community-based tool for retaining new foster families through education and peer support.
